Fresh New Fabric Delivery

Hello everyone, I still can't believe it's now 2014 can you?
All the Christmas decorations are packed away & the new calendar is hung. I've entered all the School Holidays, Birthdays and all the other stuff but still need a new diary.

Natalie has been busy and has listed all the lovely new stuff we had delivered before Christmas so in the shop now are these lovely Feathers and Text from Alison Glass.

It feels like we have been waiting forever to get these in and were are still waiting on a couple of other colour ways but these will do me for now!

Also new are these Paintbox Navy Geometrics by Cynthia Rowley for Michael Miller they are just amazing the colours really pop.

Also newly listed although we took delivery a little while ago is Bluebird Park from Moda and Enchanted Forest from Dashwood Studios.

And this fantastic glasses print from Robert Kaufman, I'm going to have a go at making a Box Pouch for our 3D glasses. I forget them every time we go to the pictures so I figure If I make a pretty pouch & leave it in the car then I'll have them next time we go!

Happy Sewing.

Sending Thanks.

Just wanted to pop in today to send out happy thoughts to all those people who came to see us at The Knitting and Stitching Show in Harrogate over the weekend (and Thursday and Friday).

Once again it was a fantastic show and thank you to all the people who came to visit us again after meeting us the previous year. I'm absolutely useless at remembering names so I'm not going to list everyone as I'm bound to miss someone out! But I do want to say a particular thanks to the ladies who stopped by to say they had all made a pinny from Natalie's pattern (can't wait to see the pictures), and the lady who said after our quick tutorial on layer cake's last year she went home and made her very first quilt, and has now gone on to make loads more!

I will leave you now with the picture as I left the restaurant on Wednesday night after set-up. Snow! Yes Snow! I had visions of being snowed in for the weekend (at least I would have had plenty of quilts to wrap up in!) but it disappeared as fast as it fell.

FQR London..... a finish!

One of the classes I took while at the Fat Quarterly Retreat in London earlier this year was Paper Piecing with Joanna and Julianna. I have never tried Paper Piecing before but really wanted to give it a go as I have seen so many fantastic patterns created using this method.

I did find I quite challenging, I think it has something to do with following instructions and planing ahead. I'm not very good with either, I tend to rush ahead with the fabric choices in all of my sewing, which could be why I end up with so many WIP's!

However a few weeks ago I decided to pull out the unfinished typewriter panel and have another go.

I'm calling it a success.

Some of the bits don't meet where they should and I had to unpick quite a few seams once I realised I had put the wrong fabric in a few crucial spots but overall I'm pleased.

The biggest cock-up I made was in pulling away the paper at the end, again no patience! I should have just sat and carefully removed them. Instead I ripped and yanked resulting in me having to re-stitch a few of the seams. Then I had the bright idea of soaking the whole thing to make the paper softer and easier to rip.... bad idea. The ink from the pattern soaked through in a couple of places and I now have a nasty line running down the body of my typewriter, but you live and learn. I won't be making that mistake again.

The panel now hangs on the wall in my little sewing room and I love it. Who know's I may even give paper piecing another go?
